NEL Funding awarded towards Kettering Public Realm
Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited has approved funding of £777,000 towards a £2m programme of public realm improvements to the centre of Kettering as part of an exciting and comprehensive package of town centre re-development proposals.
The Market Place Public Realm improvements are part of a wider strategy for regeneration and growth in the borough. Kettering Town Centre seeks to attract more investment and re-inforce its sense of place and identity. An improved public realm will contribute to the town's growth and will make Kettering more vibrant and appealing. The Market Place Public Realm seeks to bring about a catalyst for growth, regeneration and private sector investment.
The project will provide a new market place public realm for Kettering. The existing market place will be re-profiled and re-paved in order to encourage new restaurant uses and activate this key historic space. It is part of a wider project to re-pave Sheep Street and Market Street in accordance with the emerging vision for the town centre.
The Market Place public realm improvements will drive forward the regeneration and growth agenda for Kettering Borough that seeks to attract new investment into Kettering town centre by significantly raising the quality of the public realm and reinforcing the town's sense of place and identity.
One of the key objectives of the public realm improvements is to create well designed place for people in the town centre and it will also shift the balance towards streets and spaces that are more attractive for pedestrians and cyclists. Kettering already has a rich architectural heritage and the plans will deliver a public realm that is of an equally high calibre.
