Northamptonshire Ambassadors visit Adrenaline Alley
Adrenaline Alley is a registered charity based in Corby and has grown to become one of the safest, biggest and most extensive centres for urban sports such as BMX, Skateboarding and Inline Skating, outside of the US. The ramp park offers unique ramps including Europe's first 76ft resi vert ramp!
Guy Glover, Chairman of the Alley; Mandy Young, the brainchild of the Alley and Joe Dickinson, Industry Specialist, presented the history, challenges and vision of the charity to the county Ambassadors.
Adrenaline Alley was established in 2003 with the aim to improve the lives of young people in Corby. Participation has grown from 4000 to 30,000 visitors per year and delivers significant sporting, economic, educational and social value to Corby, Northamptonshire and the East Midlands. The current operation creates an economic benefit to the local economy of £4m pa.
The Alley is an important asset in the approach to the 2012 Olympics, with the new Olympic sports of BMX Racing (introduced from 2008), Vert and Skateboarding (planned from 2012). The Alley is already endorsed by world leading professionals.
Adrenaline Alley is facing a significant challenge with the current lease due to expire in 2011. As the lease cannot be extended, this presents an opportunity to develop a new world class facility and iconic tourist attraction, that can build on the current success and offer new broader community sports and cultural activity.
The charity needs support in order to achieve this vision and will not be able to raise the required capital investment on a commercial basis alone, so will require public led funding support together with the support from the wider business community.
Julia Schumacher, Ambassador Manager said “the Ambassadors were clearly very impressed with Adrenaline Alley and to see the children performing aerobatic stunts was a remarkable sight”.
“Part of the Ambassador remit is to support charitable organisations and voluntary initiatives in the county where possible. There are so many different ways of doing this and the Ambassadors demonstrated this perfectly at the Alley, from offering their professional expertise through to promoting the Alley through their extensive contacts”
